Frequently Asked Questions
How Does BodyScript Compare to InBody™, Evolt™, Tanita™ and others?
Is the BodyScript Near Infra-Red light safe?
Yes. The BodyScript Near Infra-Red Light Wand is an FDA-approved, safe method for measuring body composition.
Do I need to remove my shoes or socks to take the BodyScript composition test?
No. The removal of shoes, socks, or any clothing is not required for BodyScript composition testing.
Can I exercise before taking the BodyScript test?
Yes. There are no pre-test restrictions for BodyScript composition testing.
Can I eat before taking the BodyScript test?
Yes. There are no pre-test restrictions for BodyScript composition testing.
Can I drink fluids including caffeine before the BodyScript test?
Yes. There are no pre-test restrictions for BodyScript composition testing.
How does the BodyScript measure your entire body composition from reading your bicep?
BodyScript uses safe, FDA-approved Near Infrared technology (NIR) designed to detect the specific light absorption characteristics of body fat, water, bone, and muscle. The single-site testing approach was proven to be as accurate as multi-site body testing using NIR when six different areas on the body were tested. (view academic presentation)
How does BodyScript tell the difference between the 3 types of body fat?
BodyScript’s NIR technology for detecting the three different types of body fat percentage is based on a study of over 5,000 participants conducted by MetLife. This large population data set drives the proprietary software algorithm used by BodyScript to accurately determine the amount of essential, reserve, and excess fat levels.
Why does my body fat percentage read slightly higher than bio-impendence tests?
Bio-impedance tests rely heavily on the amount of water in the body to interrupt the amount of body fat %. BodyScript does not rely on hydration levels since BodyScript directly measures body fat through light absorption using proprietary light wavelengths designed to detect body fat along with muscle, water, and bone. Since hydration levels of a person change frequently throughout the day, this is why bio-impedance body fat readings will change, along with other pre-test restrictions such as food in-take and caffeine in-take which makes consistent testing extremely challenging for bio-impedance based systems.
Does BodyScript obtain my personal information?
No. BodyScript does not request or store any personal information. Generic information including age, gender, and height is required for accurate test results.
Does BodyScript store my personal test results?
No. Your personal results are stored on your mobile device using the BodyScript app and you control who can view or send test results to. Your test history will transfer from mobile devices if you change your device.
Is BodyScript safe for people with Pacemakers?
Yes. BodyScript does not use any electrical currents to perform body composition tests.
Can I take the BodyScript test while pregnant?
Yes. The BodyScript Near Infra-Red Light Wand is an FDA-approved, safe method for measuring body composition.
What is Hydrostatic weighing?
Hydrostatic weighing, also known as underwater weighing or hydrodensitometry, is one of the most accurate ways to measure body fat. It is considered a gold standard for measuring body composition.
What is a Dexa Scan?
DEXA stands for (Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry) which is used to assess your bone density and well as your body composition. DEXA uses an x-ray technique to look at the density of the body and can then estimate the amount of lean muscle mass and fat tissue. It is considered a clinical gold standard for measuring body fat.
